USSF Certification &
Upgrade Process
Entry
Level Certification, USSF Grade 8
New
referees must attend a USSF approved, entry level clinic and pass a test before
they are certified. The entry level clinic is 16 hours which is spread either
over a weekend or several weeknights and possibly one weekend day. For a list

AYSO Crossover Certification
It’s a fairly
simple process to crossover to being a USSF certified referee from being an
AYSO referee. To learn more, go to the Cal South Referee web site or contact the California
South Administrative Coordinator, Danielle Bryant. Information can also be found in the Referee Administrative Handbook.
In- Grade
Recertification
Continuing
members are required by the Cal South Referee Committee to attend skills
maintenance training sessions as a precondition of annual
re-certification. Maintenance training
requirements are meant to ensure officiating quality and professionalism
throughout the Cal South region. Yearly
maintenance training requirements and training options are posted on the SCSRA-Ventura Training
Page.
Cal
South requires recertifying referees to attend an annual maintenance
clinic. Cal South has a Clinic
Registration Web Page that includes the schedule for future clinics and/or
to register for a maintenance clinic. Referee
grade 6 and up require annual recertification assessments. Information for scheduling your maintenance

Upgrade Information
Requirements
for upgrading the next referee grade are outlined in the Referee Administrative Handbook. In Cal South, attendance at a Cal South
upgrade clinic is required for upgrade.

Registration Web Page that includes the schedule for future clinics and/or
to register for an upgrade clinic.
Clinics include instruction, a written examination, and a physical
fitness test. Be sure to bring running
equipment so you can take the physical, which is normally conducted at the
beginning of the clinic.
Upgrade
assessments are required for upgrades to referee grades 7 and higher. Information for scheduling your upgrade

Referees wishing to upgrade should also coordinate with our
SCSRA-Ventura Assignor to get level-appropriate practice ahead of scheduling
any assessments.
