SCSRA Board
Meeting
October 3, 2005
Approved October 14, 2005
Meeting called to order at 7:08
Present: Luis Gutierrez, Bruce Russell, Jeff Plunkett, Ron
Schmidt, Maggie Saling who acted as secretary.
Men’s League: we have issues with scheduling. Instead of
complying with request to see to double-headers, most games are scheduled at 10
or 11 am. Maggie to analyze schedule for needed changes and then request an
emergency meeting between the scheduler and president of the men’s league and
president and assignor of referee association. Association also to seek approval
for USSF dual system.
The Arbiter: The assignor has requested that the association move to using the Arbiter website for all assignments including coast, men’s league and tournaments. The fee was negotiated to $4 per referee for 170 refs and $50 per assignor.
Motion: To get the Arbiter service effective immediately, not to exceed price parameters specified in discussion. Schmidt/Plunkett Passed Unanimously
Announcement: Jeff Plunkett accepted the appointed position of treasurer effective September 1st, as the treasurer has become the assignor.
Youth Referees: we have many youth referees who need training to help them take and be in control when they are center referees, and we need to train our senior referees how to mentor the less experienced ones. Appearance of new referees needs to be addressed. Luis to suggest to our next speaker that these issues be addressed. Ron suggested that the August meeting might take place on a Saturday and be mandatory for referees who want to referee the youth season. Topics would include previewing the season, procedures and working with senior and junior referees as a team, reminders of what is and is not acceptable for USSF referees in dealing with players and coaches. Maggie is to send an e-mail to the youth membership inviting them to pick the brains of the senior referees they work with, as well as addressing the uniform issue and other preparation issues.
Randall Reyes will be the speaker for October.
No Shows: The no-show policy will be enforced once it is
determined that the referee did not have a very good reason for missing an
accepted match.
Meeting Time: Luis has requested that the meeting time for
all future meetings be 7 pm to 9 pm. Door prizes to be given to youth referees
only.
Recruiting Program. Maggie suggested a recruiting bonus
program for referees who refer a new referee to the association who accepts and
works for a year, that the referring referee is given free dues for the
following year. Discussion ensued and the program will give referees who bring a
new referee into the association who stays for a year will be given half off his
or her dues.
Luis is looking at the calendar and will set up a fitness
test for the grade 7s.
Carbon paper will be distributed to all who attend the
October meeting.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:01
Respectfully submitted,
Maggie Saling
Acting secretary
