Minutes of the Referee Meeting

Aug. 21 2001

The meeting was called to order by Eduardo Rodriguez at 7:35 p.m.

Started late, to accommodate late arrivals.

BOD/Committee Reports

Secretary: Minutes were to be posted on the web site. Waived reading of minutes.

Treasurer: Joe Puliti provided Status of checking and savings account.

Standards Committee: Chairperson Not present. Waived report.

Assignor: Assignments are required to be responded to within 48 hrs of e-mail notice from Joe Campisi. CSL has requested that we schedule assignment one month ahead. Assignor needs to know if you have three referees, if a referee is late if a referee doesn’t show.

New Business:

State Youth Camp: Three youth referees attended. Congratulations, VCRA Youth referee Shaw Kelly was selected Youth referee of the camp.

Mentor Program: Referee field evaluations will continue during Santa Barbara tournament.

Tournaments: Santa Barbara Tournament will be Aug. 25/26 (U15 & above).

Feedback on Referee Evaluations during Santa Barbara tournament

Most of referees on the field don’t look like professional referees. A number were wearing Hats. Socks were not pulled up. A number of referees were wearing sunglasses. All three referees didn’t have same Uniform. If you don’t look professional you will not get respect from coaches or players. So remember NO HATS and NO Sunglasses on the field. YOU NEED to see each other eyes.

Behavior: Always treat coach and players with respect. Prior to the start of the match introduce yourself to the coach. Remember their first name if you can. Always use common courtesy. Don’t be cold or angry. Be calm. Never yell at coach from across the field.

Substitute procedure: At first substitution go to the sideline where substitution is. Have coach call them off and you call them on. Show that you have control of the game. Have AR assist you in the substitution process. If a coach substitutes a lot, you may want to talk to him to tell him that he is disrupting flow of the game. Request that coach have players ready at midfield.

Eduardo Rodriguez moved to adjourn the meeting and the motion was seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
